Blackboard 7.3 Upgrade Completed

The Office of Distance Education is pleased to announce that we have completed the upgrade of our Blackboard system to release 7.3.159.29.  The upgrade was installed on Friday, December 14, 2007.

This new version of Blackboard has no extreme user interface changes, but does offer improvements to the current interface, as well as resolution to a variety of issues.  All faculty Blackboard training will be updated to reflect changes implemented in this upgrade.  The updated training is expected to be available around the end of January 2008.

The following are a few of the improvements and resolutions you will see after this upgrade is completed:

  • Discussion Board

    • Tree view at thread level.

    • Blackboard reports that the issue with the iFRAMES message that previously appeared for a small number of users has been resolved.

    • Blackboard reports that the issue with the message portion of some discussion postings not appearing for certain users has been resolved for any new postings in the new version.

  • Assessments

    • Point value assignment for importing questions from pools and other exams has been added into the import process.

    • In-line timer will replace the timer previously on the browser status bar.

  • Email

    • Emails sent via Blackboard now include the sender's name instead of just their email address.

  • My Courses

    • The Course ID now displays along with the title when editing your My Courses module view to hide and display courses.

  • Compatibility

    • Windows Vista with Internet Explorer 7 is now a certified browser/OS configuration for using this new Blackboard version.

  • Other

    • We are currently testing other new functions and add on features that may be enabled once we gain more information from our research.
