Drop/Add & Withdrawal Procedures

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Changing your schedule, once you have pre-registered, is easy to do provided you follow these simple guidelines.

  • COMPLETE a drop/add form and take the completed form to the appropriate registration center,  or use the STUDENT ACCESS SYSTEM on the Internet.  This system will be available to students through the last day to drop a course without academic penalty.  NOTE:  THIS PROCESS MAY BE CHANGING FOR THE FALL 2007 SEMESTER.  CHECK BACK LATER FOR MORE INFORMATION OR CHECK THE JSU HOME PAGE.

  • INAPPROPRIATE PROCEDURES:  Simply sending an email or voice mail to your instructor is NOT SUFFICIENT for making schedule changes.

  • READ THE GUIDELINES BELOW for specific information concerning schedule changes.

IF YOU DROP/ADD....

Courses dropped after the last day to drop without academic penalty must be done at the appropriate registration center and require a passing statement and full signature of the instructor with a date.  A $15.00 fee per processing will be assessed (to your student account) for each course which is added or dropped AFTER CLASSES BEGIN.  This fee is assessed even if the student changes sections of the same course.  Please remember if you wish to drop all of your scheduled classes, it is considered WITHDRAWAL from the term, not a drop.  If you drop your class, see our refund policy in the WITHDRAWAL section of the current schedule book.   If you are due a refund for dropping a class, it will be processed after the last day to receive a 50% refund for each term.   Graduate students follow the same policy.  Deadlines for dropping and adding classes for each term are noted in the schedule book.

IF YOU WITHDRAW....

Written notification of withdrawal is required from students who need to withdraw from the University during a term.  Please send a letter or form to the Registrar’s Office by certified mail or deliver it in person.  You may not withdraw by telephone or email.   IF YOU FORGET TO DO THIS, YOU WILL RECEIVE AN “F” IN EACH OF YOUR SCHEDULED COURSES.  Students who withdraw on or before the last day to withdraw without academic penalty will have their transcripts noted “withdrawn”.   If you withdraw after the last day to withdraw without academic penalty your transcript will show “WP” (withdraw passing) or “WF” (withdraw failing) as your grade (depending on your academic performance).  “WF” is the equivalent of an “F”.  The final deadline for withdrawing for each term is noted in the schedule book.

Go to Schedule Book for specific dates and other information.  Click the link, then choose the appropriate semester schedule.  Dates are normally listed on page 1 (not counting the cover).  Use the Table of Contents to locate other information.

Student Access System (Internet) - NOTE:  THIS PROCESS MAY BE CHANGING FOR THE FALL 2007 SEMESTER.  CHECK BACK LATER FOR MORE INFORMATION OR CHECK THE JSU HOME PAGE.  Use your Student ID Number and your 4 character password to enter the Student Access System.  Initially, your password is your Month and Date of birth (i.e. If your birthday is June 4, your initial password is 0604; October 23 would be 1023, etc.)  You will be required to change your password upon initial entry to the Student Access System.  Follow the instructions for completing the on-line submission.
