Proctoring of Examinations

Choose the appropriate section for your needs:

JSU Students:
For students taking a distance learning course, the following guidelines and information should be used when choosing a proctor for taking examinations.

For those living in the Jacksonville, Alabama area, instructors will make arrangements for a testing site on the campus of Jacksonville State University.  Instructors located near JSU are expected to administer exams to local JSU students.  If not stated in the course syllabus, he/she will contact you via email stating the location where these examinations will be given.

If you do not live in the Jacksonville area, you must identify someone in your local region that is willing to serve as your testing agent or proctor.  Unless otherwise directed by your instructor, it is suggested that you consider the following options:

1. Choose from a list of  Preapproved proctors at convenient locations.

2. Testing officer at a university or community college.

3.  High school counselor.

4.  Education services officer at a military base/post or reserve center.

5.  Other state or Federal organization.

6. Other willing organizations as appropriate which can be approved by your instructor.

7. The following link may be used for locating a testing center throughout the United States:
National College Testing Association - Listed by state.

Note:  Any fees charged by the proctor will be the responsibility of the student.  Also, if you are taking an online test, in Blackboard for example, you will need to make sure the site has Internet access, and you will want to check to be sure you can access Blackboard from the site.  It is suggested that you provide the Blackboard System Requirements to someone at the site who is familiar with their computers and network.  This will allow them to review the technical requirements of using Blackboard so they can advise you on whether or not their site will allow you to access Blackboard and take the online exam.

When you have identified a proctor, please submit the following information to your instructor using his/her email address:

  • Course Title

  • Your Name

  • Your Student Number

  • Your email address

  • Proctor's Name

  • Proctor's Title

  • Proctor's Agency

  • Proctor's Address

  • Proctor's Telephone Number

  • Proctor's email Address

  • Proctor's fax number

When approved by the instructor, the examination will be sent to the proctor that you have selected .

If you have any questions concerning proctoring or to verify proctoring requirements for your course, contact your instructor.
